Roskilde lies on Roskilde Fjord, west of Copenhagen. Roskilde Cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the burial church of Denmark's kings and queens, and at the Viking Ship Museum you can see original Viking ships found in the fjord.

Every summer the city hosts Roskilde Festival, one of Europe's largest music festivals, and the Ragnarock museum tells the story of rock, pop and youth culture.

Trains to Copenhagen run often, so Roskilde also works well for a stay with day trips to the capital.
